Giving extra life - Toshiba Satellite M100 Laptop memory upgrade

In February 2007 I purchased this Toshiba M100 which was at that time already an older model but still available on the store shelves. I was in a desperate situation were I was forced to buy this laptop two days after Microsoft launched Windows Vista in our state. Due to the hype at that time, this unit was sold pre-loaded with Vista home edition. I don't know how the vendor got away with that when the vista home requires minimun of 1G. Anyhow I decided to upgrade the memory myself so the system meets minimum requirement for vista home edition.

The basic configuration was only 512M RAM shared with the graphics which I upgraded to 1G. This proved the system adequate and handled my requirements very well for a long time until recently (February 2009) when I got frustrated by the "black screen" when the memory usage hits the ceiling. This happens most especially when I use google earth which is very demanding on graphics. Although the black screen was not fatal and only happens for a second or two I was just not comfortable with it so once again I went for another memory upgrade. With a bit of googling I learned that this little machine can handle up to 2G - so 2G it is.

At 2G RAM, this laptop works like a breeze. I have given it another life and I know I won't need to buy another one in the next couple of years.

My system is a Toshiba M100 PSMAAA-020006
